Honestly, I've read this book so many times, I pretty much know it by heart. I entertained the kids by reciting the book at top speed... they loved that so much that I kept on doing it, and they applauded me! They're absolutely the best kids ever! (I'm not sure who was having more fun, me or the kids!)
Later, we had a talk about Dr. Seuss and the kinds of things he did with his life. We talked about how he was the "king of nonsense". If he wanted to rhyme something and couldn't find a rhyme, he'd make up a word! After a great discussion of his books and his life, I had the children split into pairs and brainstorm words about Dr. Seuss.
This is the list they came up with:
- nonsense
- author
- illustrator
- published
- creative
- books
- tongue (as in tongue twisters)
- rhyme
- fiction
- smart
- happy
- creatures
- funny
- silly
- children
- imagination
- cat
- hat

Also coming this week? I'm thinking we might need to make some striped hats and perhaps making birthday cards for Dr. Seuss. Of course, there will be plenty of our favorite books, too!
Super fun!
