Viva Las Vegas, Part 2

While I was in Vegas, I did a tiny bit of gambling (I spent about $3 in change in a slot machine).  Gambling's definitely not my thing, but I do enjoy card games, and have played an innocent version of Blackjack with my students.  We call it Twenty One.
I've written up the directions on how we play in class.  (It includes a recording sheet.)

Now, back to Vegas!  I told about the first part of my trip HERE
I really wish I had taken more pictures!  I think I was just having too much fun to think of photography.  The few pictures I did take didn't come out great, so I've "borrowed" a few pictures from other people who went!  (Most of these pictures came from What the Teacher Wants.  Check them out for more pictures of Vegas, plus a linky party!)

Most of the time, I hung out with a few other bloggers who also came to Vegas to meet other bloggers, but not necessarily for the Conference.

They included the amazing Rachel Lynette of Minds in Bloom.
Minds in Bloom
The incredible Heather from HoJo's Amazing Teaching Adventures.  (Sorry, I have no picture of Heather, even though she's adorable!)
And the delightful Tanja from Journey of a Substitute Teacher.  (Tanja is also adorable, in fact, apparently the driver of the airport shuttle thought so, too!)
One night we had dinner and a Cirque de Soleil show, accompanied by Amy, the Community Manager of Teachers Pay Teachers.  I felt so honored to be with such awesome people.  They were so friendly, intelligent, genuine, and interesting.  Despite the fact we'd never seen each other before, we were never at a loss for conversation.  And it was GOOD conversation!  I love learning about people, and I had plenty of opportunities to do this!

The meet up itself was absolutely incredible!  There was wine, beer, and cookies thanks to Teachers Pay Teachers.  I never actually saw the cookies (I was too busy socializing) but I found the wine!  I chatted with so many bloggers, I felt like I was among celebrities!  It was so exciting, I felt so energized!
After much socializing, they sat us down and gave out some awesome door prizes!

I'm still walking without my feet touching the ground.  I won TWO prizes!

First, I won a gift certificate for ErinCongren.com!

I've been to the website several times, but I just can't decide what to get!

Second, I won a gift certificate to LoveyDoveyCreations a personalized Dry Erase Board!  Again, I just can't seem to decide on a design, but I promise I'll share it here when it comes in!
I'm so excited! I never win anything! And honestly, I was happy enough, to get to meet this incredible group of teacher bloggers!
I'm sure you can find me in the front row... in my "signature dress", clinging to my gift certificates!

Unfortunately, I had some bad news while waiting for my airport shuttle:  my stepmother had a fall and hit her head pretty badly.  During the whole trip home I was trying to keep contact with my family, keeping tabs on what was going on.  She was taken by ambulance to a hospital, then that hospital sent her by helicopter to another hospital that specializes in neurology.  Luckily, a lot of people were praying and sending positive thoughts, and it looks like she's going to be ok.  She's having trouble walking, but is determined to work hard in rehab to get back the use of her legs.  She's talking and laughing and joking, and pretty much acting the way she always acts, which is a huge relief!  I went to visit her this weekend, and I'm very happy with the care she's getting and the progress she has made.  I'm still recovering from the jet lag and general lack of sleep I've had, but I'm returning to normal!

A huge thank you to our sponsors who made our Vegas meet-up possible:
