I know, technically Presidents' Day was Monday. But, just like many local car dealerships, I like to extend Presidents' Day throughout the month of February.
I've been teaching the children about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
I've used my own mini books. (Click image for freebie.)
I ran the mini books off on colored paper. It almost looks like red, white, and blue, doesn't it?
(The Obama book and a few extra activities are available HERE.)
I also showed this short video on George Washington.
And this short video on Abraham Lincoln.
We've spent a couple of days talking about the strengths and qualities of both presidents.
Here is one of the Writing Common Core Standards for Second Grade:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.2.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
Tomorrow, we'll write our opinion about which president was the best, and why, working toward that standard.
Here's some writing paper I made for the occasion! I have a couple of different images and formats to choose from. Click the image to download this freebie.
Happy Presidents' Month!
